Salvaged Table

My boyfriend’s mom salvaged this Pottery Barn table from the trash a couple of years ago. Unfortunately it came missing some chairs and the leaf insert. It was originally the dark stain color on the legs until this past summer when we sanded and re-stained the table top. It’s quite nice now! However, we are still short two chairs and the space we need. Debating adding a bench to one side, but with FIVE kids wondering if a bench is comfortable enough seating and if the three kids that get stuck there will complain. Anyone want to weigh in?! I have never gone the dining bench route.
